NTPC Signs Contract With GAIL For Supply Of R-LNG

NTPC Limited (NTPC) has signed a contract with GAIL (India) Limited (GAIL) for supply of 2.5 mscmd of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (R-LNG) at around $6/mBtu, Business Line reported. GAIL will start gas supplies from December 2009. The two companies are also renewing the administered price mechanism agreement till 2021 and the Panna-Mukta-Tapti (PMT) gas agreement till 2019 for long-term supply of gas.
“The move to tie up for R-LNG and additional gas is meant to augment gas supplies on the medium and long-term basis” an NTPC official told Business Line.
He said that NTPC needs 15-16 mscmd of R-LNG for its gas-based plants.
